First impressions are important: the furniture here has been well-positioned, illuminated by natural light or by the downlighter, to provide a welcoming vision of this interior through the doorway. You are drawn in by the warmth of the wooden floor and by the attractive chunky farmhouse furniture.
Nick designed and commissioned this dresser to enhance the earthy look sought here. Suitable accessories, such as the old planers, were found to add rusticity to the scheme. Stenciling has been used sparingly, and placed strategically to underline the warm and summery feel of the space.
With apologies to hi-fi enthusiasts, common loudspeakers are carbuncles on your décor. So consider high quality, slimline alternatives; with screens sporting your favourite artwork (see above), you can make them as obtrusive or unobtrusive as you like (can you see them in the photo above).
Seeking to turn this originally featureless room into a spectacle, Nick acquired the fireplace from a reclamation yard, had the floors cleared of their Marley tiles (!) then stripped and varnished the boards successfully. Placing suitable antiques to good effect, this elevation is designed with balance and style.
The room design for The Circus in Bath now provides a dining area free from office and computer equipment (all housed in the bespoke unit seen on the right). The luxury carpet is understated yet remains an interesting feature of the room. The glass breakfast bar is bonded to the polished steel supports using the latest UV adhesive technology to provide a perfectly flat surface for resting cups and bowls and for cleaning.
