If you are planning a new build, home renovation or an extension, you might consider contacting an interior architect. Most people turn to a traditional architect to design their new project; an interior architect, however, offers a different perspective. He or she takes time to understand how you intend to live in and to use the new space before creating the design. If you think we can help, you can read more on our home design services page.
Interior architecture emerged from the extended range of skills required of interior designers. Many of our clients, for instance, seek an open-plan kitchen-diner which usually involves knocking down walls, extending the home, or remodelling in some way. We need a technical understanding of the consequences and requirements of major structural changes. This goes beyond the traditional view of “interior decoration”, and so the hybrid, interior architect, was born. We create 3d visuals to help our clients to visualise the space and understand how it will work for them. You can read more on 3d home design page.
Interior architects need to consider everything associated with a home renovation; to understand how clients will use the space physically and functionally, whilst creating a stylish aesthetic. This requires intelligent design of each room, covering all its practical needs: heating, lighting, location of sockets and so on, as well as floor and wall finishes, furnishings and fittings.
Interior architects will engage specialist support from a structural engineer where structural changes are required. If specific building control requirements are to be approved, they may consult a traditional architect; but everything is managed for you. In our case, we obtain planning consent, run competitive tenders for the work and manage contractors delivering the renovation. We also supply and fit kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, home entertainment and soft furnishings to complete the overall design. You can read more on our interior design services page.
Importantly, a good interior architect will make sure that the design meets the budget. We’ve seen too many instances where professionals have designed unaffordable home modifications. It is critical that they listen to you; they need to design changes that fit within your budget. We validate our design options against funds available to ensure that the finished project remains affordable.
You will find an interior architect’s approach to home design fresh and appealing. Traditional practices will design an extension, or remodel your home, for you to live in. An interior architect will start with your needs and design the space around it.
