Wireless Switch
If you want to fit a light in an awkward place without having to chase and redecorate the wall, a wireless light switch may be the answer. This “switch” is actually a radio transmitter, controlling the light fitting remotely. It is not wired to the light fitting directly. This particular switch doesn’t need a battery, either; just pressing it provides enough energy to power its radio-frequency transmitter. It just sits on the wall, or can be fitted in a standard backbox.
Light Fitting
You still need to wire the paired light fitting to the lighting circuit. The receiver receives the signal from the switch and turns power on or off accordingly.
2-Way Switches
We actually fitted two wireless light switches here to create a 2-way configuration – one at the foot of the stairs and the other on the landing. Whilst the cost of the switches and receiver is more than a standard switch, the saving on chasing and redecoration is considerable.
As mentioned, we found this solution particularly useful to connect a ceiling light at two ends of a staircase. We’ve also produced similar designs for accent lights on ceiling support structures.
