The main part of this project was to build a two storey extension to the end of the property to create an open plan kitchen diner. This took about 5 months to complete. We also designed a smaller extension to enlarge a ground floor bedroom and create a pet lobby at the rear. This formed the second phase of the project. Phase 3 saw general decoration of the rest of the property and carpeting throughout.

We wanted to express our thanks to Nick Prescott of Style Within and to recommend his interior design and project management service to others.
The main extension, knocked through from the existing house, accommodated an open plan kitchen diner with seating area. The large folding sliding doors afforded magnificent views across the valley. We also designed a master bedroom with en-suite on the extended first floor.
We produced 3D images of the design for the clients to agree the configuration. With planning approval in place and construction drawings produced, we ran a competitive tender for the work and selected the winning contractor.
Once the extension was constructed, the existing side wall was demolished and a large steel inserted. This connected the new extension with the original building and would become the open plan kitchen diner.
New Kitchen Design
We reviewed numerous kitchen options. Compiling a sample board of colours and finishes, our clients opted for a ivory coloured timber shaker design with grey-silver quartz worktop. They liked the dramatic purple glass splashback which complemented the warm grey walls and engineered oak floor.
Recessed LED downlighters spaced every metre or so provided the main task lighting. Electricians fitted pelmet lights and additional ceiling lights in the living area. We fitted the cooker hood extractor fan on the outside to minimise noise levels internally.
At the other end of the open plan space, we arranged a seating area. We designed this wall unit and installed home entertainment equipment with hidden TV and music system. The sliding cupboard doors are colour-matched to the kitchen splashback.
We formed a partition around the former kitchen to create a dedicated utility space. We stacked the tumble drier over the washing machine and installed a sink, deep-freeze and laundry storage.
Phases 2 and 3
Subsequently we refurbished the family bathroom and children’s bedrooms. We then installed a surround system in the snug, and decorated throughout. The clients also installed a timber deck to make good use of access from the new folding doors.
