Your bedroom is a sanctuary; a private space. Here you relax, recover, dress, read and sleep. But while a bedroom’s aesthetic is important, it still needs to be practical.
Here is a selection of bedrooms that we’ve designed, decorated and furnished for clients in Bath and Bristol.
Whether contemporary or traditional, we look to create a sense of luxury as you might find in a fashionable hotel. Think of inspirational features that you’ve seen whilst on holiday. We can reproduce that for you.
Bedroom decoration
Warmer and darker colours create a cosy atmosphere, accentuated by low lighting. Paler tones work well in more contemporary settings. Some clients desire a palette of soft shades, whilst others are happy for us to introduce more drama, allowing quality fabrics and accessories to punctuate the space. Occasionally, a feature wall will work, although we prefer to let furnishings make the statement.
Bedroom lighting
Bedrooms need flexible lighting. You’ll want main lights for everyday use, bedside lamps for atmosphere, reading lights for relaxing with a book, and accent lights for art and general ambiance. Better still, if controlled from an extra switch above the headboard.
Goose-neck bedside reading lights are great, allowing one partner to sleep while the other reads.
A traditional bedroom should have a central pendant of some sort. A chandelier always works well in a more glamorous setting; they don’t have to be expensive – just stylish. One of our clients even installed a large, spangled lighting feature on their ceiling as if they were star-gazing at night. Choose a quality dimmer switch to avoid any annoying buzz from cheaper models.
Bedroom flooring
Most of our bedrooms feature a quality carpet, soft and luxurious underfoot. There are some amazing synthetic carpets available with sumptuous pile at a very reasonable price. For a more urban design, we fit striped carpets adding interest to the scheme.
Beds and mattresses
The most important choice for our clients is the bed and mattress. What price is a good night’s sleep? We can make the room look stylish, but our clients must choose what they sleep on. We explain the options, then arrange for them to try out different combinations.
Bed linen
Nothing beats crisp bed linen to sleep on, but we dress it with an elegant throw or bedspread and scatter cushions made from extra fabric from the window dressing and headboard. Good bed linen has a thread count greater than 200 per square inch. You can also find some fantastic grown-up prints for your duvet cover and pillow cases.
Bedroom curtains and blinds
Bedroom window dressing is dependent on physical as well as aesthetic factors. A heavier window dressing gives a sense of cosiness, whereas a lighter option, such as a roman blind, offers a more contemporary feel. Always beware of creating a solid block of plain colour when the curtains are closed; better to have some pattern to break up the appearance. Bedroom furniture
An occasional chair or other seating is always useful in a bedroom, whether to help you dress or as a surface to rest clothing. We look to team seating fabrics with other colours in the room, as here with this aqua crocodile chenille fabric adorning the bed-end chaise.
Bedroom storage
Well-designed storage keeps the bedroom clutter-free. Some surface around the bed is always useful – such as a bedside cabinet or night stand. Choice of other furniture then depends on the quantity and type of clothing and other items that need to be stored there. Options include: wardrobes, chests of drawers, blanket boxes and dressing tables. We also design bespoke wardrobes for specific cases. If you are short on space, a tallboy chest is a good solution – an elegant set of drawers in a unit taller than standard.

Time has marched on since the twee fitted bedrooms of the past. Here we designed a bespoke bedroom to suit our client’s storage needs, but also incorporating lighting and charging points. Perfect for modern living.
Home entertainment
It’s not for everybody, but some clients choose to enjoy TV and music in the bedroom; the skill is how to hide it. We mount speakers in the ceiling, and hide TVs in cabinets. Here, we designed this remote-controlled ottoman. It is still going strong for our client after 9 years. You can read a separate page on our bespoke furniture.
