There are plenty of products on the market for keeping your toilet clean and smelling nice. I’ll always remember the TV advert with the inverted duck for cleaning under the rim. But what if there is no rim to clean? Wouldn’t that be great?
Rimless toilet
In our latest bathroom designs we decided to install rimless toilets. Externally, they look the same as a normal wc, so still match a standard bathroom scheme. But how do they work?
There are several designs for delivering water to clean the toilet. This one has three outlets spaced around the upper edge of the toilet bowl. Water is delivered directly to these outlets from the cistern, swirling around the porcelain and cleaning as it goes.
Other designs rely more on the head of water in the cistern. On flushing, water is delivered under gravity to two outlets at the back of the wc at speed. The water then rushes around in both directions towards the front, washing down the bowl as it falls. You need to watch these designs. We have seen two examples which, we believe, need adjustment by the installers or suppliers to work properly. In the first case, the water didn’t quite make it to the front – so there was an area that wasn’t cleaned. In the second case, the water rushed so fast that the two “waves” collided at the front and splashed over the top. Anyone still seated would have experienced a chilly surprise!
