Designing and fitting stylish kitchens in Bath and Bristol, we oversee construction work, electrics, lighting, heating, flooring, decoration and other finishes. For kitchens in extensions we also handle planning applications.

We are absolutely delighted with our extended, open plan kitchen diner and would highly recommend the design and project management of Nick Prescott at Style Within.  Having decided that we wanted to extend our existing kitchen to create an open plan kitchen diner, we discussed the prospect of a joint project with our adjoining neighbours, who were also keen on a similar build.

Kitchen Design

We work very closely with our clients throughout the design stage, using 3D visuals to show how the space will work. With samples, catalogue references and showroom visits we finalise the kitchen design, complementing the kitchen units with appliances, worktop and splashback, all from our local suppliers. Boiling taps, macerators, water softeners and other requirements are also considered as part of the design process. We then manage the work to completion.

We were extremely happy with the service received from Style Within for our bathroom design so we didn’t hesitate to use them again for the larger project of our kitchen. The end result is a lovely kitchen we enjoy being in! We have already recommended Style Within to freinds and neighbours, and would continue to do so without hesitation.

New Kitchen Ideas and Features

Key to planning your new kitchen is to think at least 10 years ahead; will you still want to bend down to your oven, or would high-level appliances be more appropriate? We lead you through the options. Beware of kitchen islands – they always look great in photos and many of our clients are seduced by them, only to realise that they won’t fit. We always plan the space to scale and confirm that you can move around with ease. Islands are fantastic in the right setting, and it’s important to check that they will actually work.

modern kitchen units

We create low-maintenance kitchens that are particularly easy to clean.  Features to look out for include coloured glass splashbacks and quartz worktops; easy to wipe with no grout lines. We choose suitable flooring (you’ll find plenty of porcelain and vinyl floor tiles in our kitchen designs) and install underfloor heating where possible to free up wall space. We design flexible lighting, providing plenty of light for your working surfaces and subtle light for dining. We integrate home entertainment too, for music while you cook and eat.

Our designs take care to hide unattractive features; we fit switched fused spurs in adjacent cupboards; still reachable, but out of sight.  All our sockets and switches are flush mounted and we even colour-match them to the glass splashback.

Most kitchens today incorporate an eating area, whether a full-size diner, small table or breakfast bar; we work out the best options as part of the overall kitchen plan.

Open Plan Kitchen Diners in Extensions

Many of our kitchen renovations involve extensions, or knock-throughs between two rooms. We design and manage everything. The grey kitchen shown earlier formed part of a side return extension, the story of which can be traced through our blog. In fact we completed new installations for both neighbours concurrently as a collaborative venture (see image below), which saved each about 10% on material and labour, and 50% on our project management fee!

Here is the second kitchen from the side return extension renovation above:

Some people still want to retain a separate dining room. In the project below, our clients preferred an open-plan kitchen living space, with home cinema.
